OrAlert Oral Fluid Testing Device

The OrAlert Oral Fluid Drug Test Device is a patent-pending method for the non-invasive, instant detection of multiple drugs in human oral fluid.

Using a multi-drug, multi-line lateral flow immunoassay, the OrAlert device enables the qualitative detection of drugs and drug metabolites. The device and its use of oral fluid eliminate the need for special equipment, same-gender collections, and complicated training. Additionally, because oral fluid is difficult to alter or adulterate, the specimen’s integrity can be assured.

Alere Toxicology Services, Inc. offers only one configuration of the oral fluid testing device. This product tests for the following drugs or drug metabolites:

  • Marijuana metabolite
  • Cocaine metabolite
  • Opiates, including morphine and codeine
  • Amphetamine and Methamphetamine
  • Phencyclidine (PCP)

Device Features:

  • Collectors may record pertinent information directly on the collection device to aid in identification.
  • No additional special equipment or environment is required for use of the device.
  • Donors are not required to provide specimens in privacy, so collections may be performed by individuals of the opposing gender.
  • Test kit includes all components for testing including a procedure card to eliminate potential errors.
  • Test devices are self-contained and portable and can be sent directly to the laboratory for confirmation.
  • Test controls are built into the device.
  • Results are available in 10 minutes.
  • Results appear clear and are easy-to-read.
  • The devices may be stored at room temperature for up to 24-months.
  • Devices must be ordered in increments of 25.

These test devices utilize a similar technique for analyzing the concentration of drugs in the body as labs use, but any non-negative test results from a point of collection test should be considered preliminary. A more specific method should be used in order to obtain a confirmation. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has established Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) as the preferred confirmatory method. As users of Alere Toxicology’s products, you may elect to forward specimens that screen suspect positive to one of Alere Toxicology’s SAMHSA-certified laboratories for re-screen and confirmation.
